Christian Since:
I got saved at age 17. In retrospect, I have been a Christian
since I was a small child but I was never aware of it. At birth my
parents christened me as Anglican (Episcopalian), then at the ripe ole
age of 2 they re-christened me into the Catholic religion. When I was 5
my brother had a heart condition that caused him to stay in a
convalescence home that was attached to our parish church that was being
run by nuns. I was 4 at the time. He spent 2 years in this home. On
Friday evenings, my parents would drop me off at the home so I could
spend weekends with my brother. This caused me to spend a lot of time
with the nuns. They taught me so many things and I was so fascinated
with their ways. I also attended the Catholic school that was being run
by nuns. My parents ensured I went to church every Sunday and after
church there was Sunday school.
I made my first communion and got confirmed. In my early teen years, I
was so involved with the church, I joined the choir, I helped in the
counting of the collection money and on Sundays after the morning mass,
I was part of an Administration team that parents gave their info to so
their babies could be baptized. I wrote up many Baptismal Certificates.
While baptism was being performed, we went to the presbytery to prepare
Sunday lunch for the parish priest and whoever was the visiting priest
at the time. Oftentimes this would be the Archbishop - He had a habit of
quizzing me, I did not look forward to this.
At this time I was not aware that I was doing God's work - now I know.
Every Christmas, I went carolling with my friends from my neighborhood.
The money we collected was used to buy food and toys for the children in
the convalescence home.
After high school, my parents sent me to Secretarial College. For the
lunch break, a group of girls would get together and just have catechism
classes. Apparently, a local church got wind of this and one day a
member of the church showed up and started teaching us about the
Charismatic movement within the Catholic church, getting saved, and
receiving the Holy Spirit. So I can safely say I got saved at age 17.
Why I love the Lord:
Life can be
bombarded with difficulties, sadness, unexpected circumstances. I have
learned that I can call on the Lord and place my cares in his hand. His
love comforts, he gets me through these and with him miracles happen.
What an awesome God he is.
