FOCUS: JESUS

MORE THAN CONQUERORS
Text: Romans 8:14-39; I Sam. 22:31-57

Memory Verse: Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us Rm. 8:37

Introduction:  This world is full of wars.  Various battles come our ways daily.  As long as we live in this world of war, we cannot do without being confronted with one tribulation, battle, warfare or the other.  Above any other person, Children of God (Christians) are faced with divers kind of physical and spiritual battles. This is because we do not love the world hence the prince of this world (Satan) daily fight us tooth and nail.  Vain flesh also struggles to kill our spirit, making it difficult to please God (Gal. 5:17).  However whether temptation, wars, tribulation, none of these things has any potential to make us fall when we live in the Spirit, being obedient to God’s word and determining to follow on (Rom. 8:35-3-9).

No one can claim to be a conqueror except he had faced a war and won victoriously.  To be more than conqueror means that you always conquer each time any of the enemies of God’s people come to fight you.  Each victory you have strengthens you to win more, keep conquering and to do exploit (Rev. 6:2)

In this study we shall consider the conflict, the solution, our part and the way to continue in victory.

  1. The Conflict:  Eph. 6:10-12; II King 18:13; 17:23; I Sam.20:1; 21:10; 23:7-12.

The Bible makes us to know that our warfare or conflict is not principally with flesh and blood, even though they may be involved for the devil can make use of anybody or anything that allow himself or itself to be used of him.  What is the conflict you are facing presently?  It could be any of these: Oppression, attack, persecution, trials, temptation, need etc.  It could as well be any other thing.  Let us note that our conflict is far beyond our dating.  It is since the time of creation for the devil spotted the love of God for men and then came down in all his wrath (Rev. 12:12).  He uses all within his ability to fight the human race since his exalted position is now within the reach of men (Christians).

  1. The Solution: Isa. 49:24-26; 45:13

If actually and sincerely the devil has come with such a determination, we should be thinking of how to escape and overcome him.  Thanks to God, the Bible says we are more than conquerors but only through Him that loved us (Jesus).  Therefore the solution is Jesus (Rev. 5:1-5).  Note it that it is not by power or by might (Zec. 4:6).  Though our righteousness may be like a filthy rag yet His own righteousness is sufficient for us (Isa. 64:6; I Cor. 1:30).  He is one who said “in the world…” (John 16:33).  The work has been done, it is in your hand to capture, and take over and have your own victory.

  1. Our Part:  Eph. 6:1-18

We have seen the conflict and the solution.  Jesus has done it for us yet we have our own part to play.  We cannot fold our hands.  Though God has done His part and He is still doing it.  Yet at the same time He expects us to do ours.  Part of what to do is, prayer (John 16:24; Lk. 18:1-8a), Study our Bible (2 Tim. 2:15; Dan. 9:2), Fellowship with brethren (Eccl. 4:9-12), Wearing the armor of God (Eph. 6:11-18), Obedience to every known commandment of God (I Sam. 15:22-23) etc.  In the Bible, God had helped various people on different occasions but they did not fold their hands.  Remember Gideon, he went to the battle with only 300 men not really to fight, but yet he went, he did not stay at home (Judges 7:19-23).  Gideon and his companions’ part were to blow the trumpet.  What is it that God is expecting you to do?  Do it (that is your best) and leave the rest to Him.

  1. The way to Continue in Victory Acts 14:22

The battle and conflicts in this world are not for short time and few days but for a long time.  As you overcome a problem you may need to face another.  Remember Jacob ran from Esau only to be faced with the cunningness and trouble of Laban and his children (Gen. 27:41-45; 29:1; 31:36-42).  For this truth we must continue conquering because we will constantly be faced with the tribulation of this world.  Now how do we continue in this fight against flesh, the world, the devil with all his principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness?  The only way is to keep on looking unto God and following the solution, the author and finisher of our faith Jesus Christ the Lord (Heb. 12:1-4).  Our fight must continue until we finally see Him and lay our banner at His feet.

Conclusion:   You cannot be a conqueror if you still give up to worries, sorrow, anxiety, sin, temptation, fear and unbelief.  Remember that Jesus Christ was victorious in all the battles that faced Him and we should follow in His steps because He had paid the price for our victory 1 Peter 2:21.  With this we declare victory to every problem, battle, and war because we are more than conqueror.
