Trapped Bird

My beautiful six year old daughter came running into the house – yelling and carrying on about something she had seen outside. Her father and I followed her outside at her insistence and found what was upsetting her so much. There was a tiny baby bird trapped in our fountain. It was in shock and obviously not in good shape.

My husband reached in and picked it up from the water and laid it on the patio. As we stood around it the little baby bird went into “convulsions” and its little beak turned bright yellow. My husband pronounced that the bird would not make it for more than an hour and “let’s just let nature run it’s course.” There was nothing we could do for it. This upset my daughter terribly and she would not leave that bird’s side! I tried to no avail, but she was determined to “comfort” that little bird.

I went inside the house as I could not stand to watch the little bird di! E so slowly. I even asked my husband that if I were to distract our daughter, could he not put it in a shoebox? I just hated the site! By the time I got back to the window to look outside and call her back in to “distract” her, I saw her on her little knees in front of that bird (who was “belly up” at this time) tears streaming down her face. Her little hand clasped in prayer and I could see her mouth moving. I knew she was praying. I didn’t even think about praying for that little bird, certainly God had so much more to do that day! Then the scripture about the little sparrows came to me, Matt 10:29: “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.” I prayed, “Lord – please let that little bird live!” I went about my business and let her pray.

Pretty soon she came screaming into the house! “Mom! Mom! Come and see!” Immediately a smile came to me! My father in heaven never forsakes us! The little baby bird was up and hopping about! He let my daughter pat his head and pretty soon – off he flew into the sky!

Luke 12:7 -“But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

The Lord witnessed to my child this day and I received a “refresher course” on the Lord’s almighty love! Praise to him always!
