What Does the Bible Say About … SELLING YOUR SOUL?

Can one sell one’s soul to the devil?

This may be a shock to many who will read this, but we all have sold our souls to the devil.  How?  Very simply by doing our way instead of God’s way.  It all started in the Garden of Eden.

Gen 3:1-6 “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'” “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” NIV

That day, Adam and Eve not only sold their soul, but they also sold their rulership to the devil.  They used to be in charge of God’s nature: Gen 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’” NIV  But once they gave in to the voice of the devil, they handed their rulership to the evil one.

Notice what Satan was offering Jesus if He worshipped the devil: Matt 4:8-9 “The devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” NIV  The devil could offer this to Jesus, because the world had become his when Adam and Eve obeyed his voice instead of the Lord’s.

“But that is Adam and Eve.  What about me?”

I have some bad news for you.  This includes you.  Rom 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” NIV

Or like the Message Bible brings it out so clearly: Rom 3:10-18 “There’s nobody living right, not even one, nobody who knows the score, nobody alert for God. They’ve all taken the wrong turn; they’ve all wandered down blind alleys. No one’s living right; I can’t find a single one. Their throats are gaping graves, their tongues slick as mud slides. Every word they speak is tinged with poison. They open their mouths and pollute the air. They race for the honor of sinner-of-the-year, litter the land with heartbreak and ruin, Don’t know the first thing about living with others. They never give God the time of day.”

Even Jesus said to the people of His time: John 8:44 “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” NIV

Ouch!  That hurts! The sad fact is that we all have sold our soul to the devil through our sins!

There is good news though!  Yes we have sold our souls to the devil as confirmed in Rom 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

However read the Good news in verse 24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” NIV

and

1 Cor 15:22 “For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” NIV

Jesus came with one purpose on our planet: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” NIV

All you have to do is to believe and accept Jesus in your life to experience His resurrected life in you. He cared for you so much that He willingly died for you.  That cross was meant for you.  Jesus took it.  He died your death, so that you could be reconciled with your Heavenly Father.  However, the story doesn’t end here.  On the third day, Jesus was resurrected and He is sharing His resurrection with all those who will accept Him in their life. (See Rom 6:5-7 “If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin- because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.” NIV)  This means that by accepting Jesus into your life, your soul is bought back from the devil!

Will you accept Him now into your life?  It’s not too late yet to do so.  Experience His freedom now. Answer the Saviour’s call today! Your soul doesn’t have to remain sold to the devil.  Jesus paid the price to set it free!

“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” – Mt 16:26

It is obvious by the above scripture that man can sell his soul to the devil. What price was required to redeem our souls from the wrath of God’s judgment? Nothing but the blood of the Son of God! – 1 Pe 1:18-19

Even if we cannot fully comprehend why Jesus had to die, as many people do living on this earth, we should able to see that the souls of men are extremely valuable to Him if His death was necessary in order to save them.

So the Bible teaches that the soul is more valuable than the whole world! And yet, many people “sell their souls” for what surely are petty bargains. Things that will never last. Things that can never guarantee them eternal life with our Father. Financial gain, lust, personal profit, greediness, selfishness, etc. All the things that we are tempted by the devil with. So we must stand strong and put on the armor of the Lord and never sell our souls to the devil for temporary satisfaction.

The answer is no. Anyone not saved by receiving Christ as Savior are lost, and in a sense a child of the devil. But the Bible says, “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” Ezekiel 18:4.

It is true, that if one does not receive Christ as Savior, he/she will go to hell, but they didn’t sell themselves to the devil, they are under the curse of the Fall.

Yes, you can sell your soul to the devil. In Matthew, not sure what reference, Jesus says that we must lose our lives or souls for Him to enter into the kingdom of heaven.

People make deals with the devil all the time ,everyday whether it is in business or not serving God so my answer would be yes a person can sell his soul to the devil.

No, Jesus is the overseer of the souls. Peter 2:25 NIV version “for you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepard and overseer of your souls”

The only way you can lose your soul, is by choosing to deny Jesus Christ.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (Joh 3:16-18 KJV)
